Gelede is a Yoruba mask-dance tradition, honouring great mothers, found across Yorubaland: Nigeria, Benin, Togo. These drums have a very resonant "throaty" conga type sound. The distinctive tuning paste in the middle of the skin enhances the tone. You can hear this drum featured on tracks 17 & 18 of the "Yoruba drums of Benin" album(see link)
