GÚDÚGÚDÚ

BACK TO SHOP

(goo-doo-goo-doo)

Bowl-shaped support drum to the Dundun ensemble, worn around neck, played with two leather thongs(small versions of what are known as koboko) The drum is tuned by the paste in the middle and by banging in pegs at bottom.

Thought to be the oldest of Yoruba drums, the Gudugudu plays as accompaniment to the extended dundun family of Yoruba talking drums. (One gudugudu per ensemble). Two different tones can be achieved by playing either directly on the paste or on the skin.
