A loud, bowl-shaped support drum to the Dundun ensemble, worn around neck, played with two leather thongs(koboko). Two different tones can be achieved by playing either directly on the paste or on the skin. The drum is also tuned by banging in pegs at bottom.
Said to be the oldest of Yoruba drums, the Gudugudu plays as accompaniment to the extended dundun family of Yoruba talking drums(one gudugudu per ensemble) although technically, this drum is in the Bata drum family and is first cousin to the Kudi drum.
